As a designer, I'm constantly looking to create new experiences. As an avid gamer, I started at the age of 5 and gradually built up 22 years of experience with games across all genres and platforms both digitally and analogue.
To quote C.S. Lewis "Do not recite the deep magic to me, witch. I was there when it was written".
With our nation being caught in a sporadic state of lockdown, families are isolated. what's more, a system known as the support bubble has been put into effect by our government to ensure those who are completely isolated, of an older age bracket or susceptible to mental health issues, can make contact with another household.
I have identified this as the perfect time to make a board game. Board games are great at bringing families together.
At a young age, my family was split in two and so my sister and I would visit our father once every two weeks. As a man born in the sixties, my father would often make us revisit old films starring Kirk Douglas or make us listen to the soulful classics by Errol Brown.
When it came to video games my father would have nothing to do with them, once in a blue moon would he sit down and watch me play GTA: Vice City, inciting me to enact chaos and violence on the populous. But more often than not we would get together and play board games; more specifically strategy games. Risk and chess were predominant in our selection of games which is why I have been inspired to create a board game with takes, key mechanics, from both board games to create a new and refreshing experience that can be picked up and accessed easily by families.
In a time of segregation, it is easy for one to become frustrated, especially against those nearest to you, as such I aim to create a board game that will bring families an experience of joy, cohesion and togetherness just as I experienced.
